Qatar Airways to Expand Starlink Wi-Fi to Its Airbus A350s

Qatar Airways is bringing ultra-fast Wi-Fi to the clouds — and it’s about to cover (almost) their entire Boeing 777 fleet, and even more impressively, it’s about to do the same with its Airbus A350s starting this April.

“In April, we’ll become the first airline to equip the Airbus A350 with Starlink, taking another bold step in redefining connectivity in the skies,” said CEO Badr Al-Meer.

In what’s shaping up to be a major flex in aviation tech, Qatar Airways has announced it's just a few planes away from completing Starlink internet installation across its entire Boeing 777 lineup. With more than 80% of the fleet already cruising with high-speed Starlink, the airline has operated over 6,000 Starlink-enabled flights — and counting.

Once complete, Qatar will become the first airline in the world to offer complimentary Starlink Wi-Fi across an entire fleet of Boeing 777s

What’s the big deal with Starlink Wi-Fi?

Well, for starters — it’s not your average airplane Wi-Fi. With speeds of up to 500 Mbps, this low-latency connection lets you stream Netflix, FaceTime friends, play online games, or host a Zoom call from 35,000 feet like a boss.

The tech is powered by SpaceX’s Starlink satellite constellation, a network of low Earth orbit satellites that beam down internet without relying on traditional towers or fiber. Basically, no signal blackouts mid-flight anymore.

In fact, Qatar Airways CEO went viral last year for calling Elon Musk from a 777 mid-flight, announcing the Starlink rollout with style. Since then, the airline’s been on a mission to redefine in-flight vibes.

Airbus A350s up next

The next chapter? Qatar’s Airbus A350 fleet, which will start receiving Starlink connectivity upgrades in April 2025, making the airline a dual-first on both Boeing 777s and Airbus A350s.

Qatar currently operates 64 Boeing 777 aircraft, including 57 300ERs and 7 200LRs, making this rollout one of the fastest and most ambitious in aviation history.

"The airline’s rapid rollout reinforces in-flight innovation leadership,” reads the official statement.

PSG streamed a press conference from the sky

Yup, even Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) used Qatar’s new sky-Wi-Fi — the team hosted a live press conference from cruising altitude en route to Doha for their winter camp and the Trophée des Champions final.

So, whether you're watching YouTube, scrolling TikTok, or jumping into a Fortnite match mid-flight, Qatar Airways is making sure your sky-high internet isn't just fast — it's next level.

Welcome to the future of flying. Wi-Fi turbulence? Never heard of her.
