Meta Deletes 90K Pro-Palestine Posts After Israeli Requests

Meta is under fire after whistleblower leaks revealed the company removed over 90,000 pro-Palestinian posts following takedown requests from the Israeli government—sparking global outrage over what’s being called one of the largest online censorship operations ever recorded.

According to documents obtained by Drop Site News, the tech giant complied with 94% of Israeli content takedown requests submitted since October 7, 2023. Most were flagged for vague reasons like "terrorism" or "incitement." And Meta’s response? Blisteringly fast. Posts vanished in as little as 30 seconds, the report states.

But here’s where it gets even more dystopian: Israel’s reach wasn’t limited to its own territory. In fact, just 1.3% of its takedown requests targeted users within Israel. The rest focused on voices from over 60 other countries, particularly in Arab and Muslim-majority regions—making this more than just content moderation. It’s narrative control on a global scale.

Meta insiders say the platform’s AI is now being trained with these biased moderation decisions, potentially hardwiring future censorship into the system. “Israel’s censorship project will echo well into the future,” a whistleblower warned.

Critics are also pointing to conflicts of interest in Meta’s leadership. The company’s Integrity team, which oversees content enforcement, is led by Guy Rosen, a former Israeli military official. Meanwhile, Jordana Cutler, an ex-advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has reportedly been directly involved in flagging Palestine-related content—including material about renowned Palestinian writer Ghassan Kanafani.

It’s not just leaks fueling concern. Human Rights Watch independently confirmed that 1,049 out of 1,050 posts removed since October 7 were in support of Palestine.

Even peaceful advocacy hasn’t been spared. Whistleblowers report that Meta’s AI regularly removes posts that don’t break any rules. Accounts that post such content often rack up “strikes,” eventually leading to bans.

“Meta has failed to curb this abuse,” said one insider. “And has instead actively facilitated it.”

For Gen Z and Millennials—many of whom turn to Instagram and Facebook for real-time news and grassroots updates—this raises serious questions about who controls the narrative online, and whose voices are being silenced.

As state influence over tech platforms grows, the border between government interests and corporate compliance is looking increasingly blurry—and free expression might be caught in the crossfire.
