Ahmed Manasra Released from Israeli Prison After 9.5 Years

Palestinian youth Ahmed Manasra, aged 23 years old, was released from prison by Israeli authorities after nine and a half years on Thursday, Apr. 10.

The youth's lawyer, Khaled Zabarqa, confirmed the news in the local Palestinian media. Manasra was released far away from the prison, despite the authorities being aware of his family waiting for him outside the prison gates, according to the Jerusalem-based Palestinian photo-journalist Abdalafo Bassam.

Despite his release, Manasra and his family face various restrictions, including limitations on talking to the press.

Ahmed Manasra was imprisoned after he was charged with allegedly stabbing two Israelis near the Pisgat Zeev settlement in occupied east Jerusalem in 2015.

The youth was arrested when he was 13 years old and sentenced to 12 years in prison, despite the court finding that he had not participated in the stabbings.

In August 2017, the Supreme Court reduced his sentence to nine and a half years, which led to Manasra's recent release.
