Qatar Airways Boosts Flight Frequency to Syria

Qatar Airways is set to increase its flight frequency to Syria as the country continues to emerge from over a decade of civil war. The airline will add one more daily flight to Damascus starting in June, according to Thierry Antinori, Chief Commercial Officer of Qatar Airways. This move comes in response to growing travel demand as Syria begins its recovery phase.

Currently, Qatar Airways operates flights to Damascus using an Airbus SE A330 wide-body jet, with flights at a high occupancy rate of 90%. This increase in flights highlights the carrier's confidence in the country's recovering travel market.

A Pioneer in Syria's Air Travel Resumption

Qatar Airways was among the first international airlines to resume flights to Syria’s capital, Damascus, in January, following the fall of Bashar Al-Assad's regime. The airline’s early return to Syria was a significant milestone, especially as many other global airlines had suspended operations to Damascus at the start of the Syrian civil war.

This resumption of services also aligns with Qatar Airways' broader strategy of strengthening its network and providing more travel options for passengers. In addition to Syria, Qatar Airways was also one of the first airlines to resume flights to Beirut after the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon in November, further cementing its role as a vital global connector.

Expanding Network to Meet Growing Demand

In addition to the increase in flights to Syria, Qatar Airways has been expanding its reach in Europe as well. Recently, the airline announced the launch of a third daily flight between Doha and Berlin, catering to rising demand on this route. As the dominant carrier on the Doha-Berlin route, Qatar Airways continues to capitalize on the absence of regional rival Emirates.

The airline's European strategy doesn’t end there. Qatar Airways currently serves five destinations in Germany, including the recently added Hamburg route. Looking ahead, Antinori hinted at the potential for further expansion in Germany, with Stuttgart—home to global automotive giants Mercedes-Benz and Porsche—being a key contender for future services.
