Fugitive Pastor Apollo Quiboloy Arrested After Major Hunt

Apollo Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) and a prominent televangelist, has been taken into custody after a 16-day search. Quiboloy, who faces serious charges including child abuse and human trafficking, was apprehended on Sunday.

Details of the Arrest

According to Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, the head of the search operation, Quiboloy was either surrendered or captured, though specifics about the arrest remain unclear. The arrest followed a warrant issued on August 24, targeting Quiboloy within the KJC’s 30-hectare compound in Buhangin District, Davao City.

Plane Transfer

From Davao City, Quiboloy was flown to Manila on an Air Force C-130, which landed late Sunday afternoon. The plane departed with Quiboloy and several others on board after the authorities completed their procedures.

Legal Dispute

Quiboloy’s legal team claims he surrendered to the military rather than being arrested. Ferdinand Topacio, Quiboloy’s lawyer, criticized Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos for allegedly overstating his role in the arrest.

Charges and Background

Quiboloy, who self-identifies as the "appointed Son of God," is also on the FBI’s most wanted list for sex trafficking and bulk cash smuggling. He and his co-accused face charges related to child abuse and human trafficking, with court proceedings ongoing in Quezon City and Pasig City, Metro Manila.

Months before his apprehension, a group of Philippine citizens offered 10 million pesos (U.S. $170,760) for any information that could help in arresting Quiboloy. Since Quiboloy's lawyer claims that his client surrendered, no news has been reported about who will receive the cash prize.
