Saudi Arabia Acquires Company Behind Pokemon Go

Saudi Arabia's Scopely has acquired Niantic's gaming division, the creator of the renowned augmented reality (AR) game Pokémon Go, for $3.5 billion. 

Through this acquisition, the company has secured ownership of successful games like Pokemon Go and Pikmin Bloom.

The deal also allows Scopely to use and sell Niantic's innovative AR technology. 

Through this deal, the mobile game developer also acquired non-gaming apps Campfire and Wayfarer. This deal is the 10th biggest acquisition in gaming history. 

Scopely is owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund's subsidiary Savvy Games Group and with this new acquisition, its reach is expected increase to 500 million players.
