Qatar’s Govt Employees Can Now Enjoy Flexible Remote Work

The Qatari Cabinet, chaired by H.E. Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, has approved a new flexible work and remote system for government employees. The decision was made during a regular meeting held at the Amiri Diwan on September 4, 2024.

New Work System Features

The approved proposal, submitted by the Civil Services and Government Development Bureau, aims to adopt flexible work hours and remote work options that align with Qatar National Vision 2030. The goal is to create a productive work environment that balances the needs of employees and the requirements of government entities. The new system will come into effect on September 29, 2024.

Flexible Work Hours

Government employees will work 7 hours per day from 7am to 2pm, but they will have the flexibility to start between 6:30am. and 8:30am as long as they complete their required hours. Certain employees, such as mothers, those with medical reasons, or employees with disabilities, will be granted reduced working hours.

Remote Work Option

The remote work option allows heads of government entities to permit up to 30% of their staff to work remotely for one week per year. Additionally, Qatari mothers with children under 12 will have the option to work remotely for one month.

Exclusions and Purpose

Shift workers and other employees whose duties cannot accommodate these systems are excluded from the policy. The primary goal of the new work model is to create a balanced environment that supports employees' family needs, enhances productivity, and encourages innovation in the government sector.
