Qatar's Public Parks Are Expanding – Here's What to Expect

Qatar is about to get even greener! Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada, Director of the Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality, has announced plans to expand the number of public parks across different municipalities, eventually reaching 160.

Currently, Qatar boasts 122 public parks covering 2.6 million square meters. When factoring in squares and corniches, that number jumps to 151, with a total area of 3.19 million square meters.

With the holy month of Ramadan bringing in cooler weather, Al Sada highlighted a significant surge in park visitors. Families and individuals of all nationalities have been flocking to these open spaces for recreation, relaxation, and even iftar gatherings. Many parks are equipped with seating areas, prayer rooms, restrooms, and designated zones for sports and children’s activities, making them an ideal destination.

To accommodate the influx of visitors, security and cleaning teams have been ramped up, especially in large central parks, with extended operational hours until 1 AM throughout Ramadan.

Beyond expansion, Qatar is also focusing on sustainability in park management. Future parks will incorporate local plants that require minimal water, advanced irrigation systems using treated wastewater, and enhanced infrastructure, including shaded seating and walking tracks.

With more parks on the horizon, Qatar is set to become an even more vibrant, eco-friendly, and family-friendly destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
