Qatar's Baladna Explores Dairy Expansion in the Philippines

Qatari agricultural giant Baladna is eyeing a significant investment venture into the Philippines, aiming to establish a large-scale, fully integrated dairy facility in the country, according to statements from the nation’s Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Established in 2014, Baladna stands as Qatar’s premier dairy and beverage producer, currently supplying over 95% of the nation's fresh milk. The DTI revealed that Philippines’ Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual recently engaged in discussions with Baladna officials in Doha, signaling the company's keen interest in expanding its operations.

Pascual expressed the Philippine government's readiness to extend support to Baladna for its proposed investments, emphasizing a collaborative approach across government agencies. He affirmed that the DTI and the Board of Investments are prepared to facilitate meetings and connect Baladna with potential joint venture partners.

Highlighting the importance of the project, Pascual noted that the Department of Agriculture is actively scouting suitable locations for the prospective dairy facilities. The initiative aligns with the Philippine government's strategic goal of achieving self-sufficiency in food and milk production.

During discussions, Pascual underscored the robust demand for dairy products within the Philippines, stressing that local production must match or exceed imports. He assured regulatory backing for labeling standards concerning fresh milk, UHT milk, and imported frozen milk concentrate, in line with the Philippine National Standard.

In addition to engagements with Baladna, the DTI official also explored investment prospects with representatives from Qatar Cool, reflecting growing interest from Qatari companies in the Philippine market.
