Qatar Unveils 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Logo & Campaign

The 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup is gearing up to make history, with the official logo and the ambitious “Step It Up” campaign revealed in Doha by FIBA Global Ambassador and NBA legend Carmelo Anthony.

This marks a significant milestone as the tournament prepares to debut in the Middle East and North Africa region, with Qatar hosting the world’s top basketball nations.

The World Cup, set to be the largest ever held in a single city, will see 32 nations competing for glory. The event will also determine spots for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.

A Logo Inspired by Qatari Heritage

The tournament’s logo takes inspiration from the Bisht, a traditional Qatari cloak symbolizing prestige and achievement. The logo artfully wraps the Naismith Trophy, representing Qatar’s embrace of the global basketball community. The design evolves throughout the tournament, reflecting different stages with colors symbolizing beginnings, resilience, and celebration.

Visual Identity Highlights:

  • Developed by Unlock Brands, the logo is bold, cultural, and modern.
  • The campaign slogan, “Step It Up,” embodies the passion and energy of basketball while aligning with Qatar’s ambition to elevate the sport to new heights.

Carmelo Anthony’s Take

NBA legend Carmelo Anthony expressed excitement for the event:
“The FIBA Basketball World Cup is the pinnacle of basketball. With Qatar 2027, the stakes and energy will hit new levels. The logo and campaign capture the heart of the sport and this historic moment for Qatar.”

Record-Breaking and Inclusive Vision

This year’s tournament builds on the success of the 2023 FIBA World Cup hosted by the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan, which shattered engagement records. Qatar’s edition aims to push boundaries further with a focus on sustainability and cultural inclusivity.

Mohammed Saad Al Meghaiseeb, Director General of the Local Organizing Committee, said:
“This logo and campaign highlight our dedication to showcasing Qatari culture while promoting basketball globally. We’re committed to delivering a sustainable and impactful event that fosters unity and mutual respect among nations.”

The Road to Qatar 2027

The journey to the tournament begins with the Qualifiers in November 2025, featuring 80 national teams and over 2,000 players across 420 games. The Qualifiers’ draw will take place on May 13, 2025, in Doha, setting the stage for 15 months of intense basketball action.
