Qatar to Launch Longest Climate-Controlled Crystal Walkway

United Development Company (UDC) has revealed its latest project: the longest climate-controlled pedestrian walkway in Qatar, called the Crystal Walkway. Set to be a highlight of Gewan Island, this unique walkway will serve as a commercial and social hub, featuring shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

Luxury Living on Gewan Island

UDC first announced the launch of Crystal Residence apartments during Cityscape Qatar in 2021, and this year, at Cityscape Qatar 2024, they’re continuing to spotlight investment opportunities in the development. Crystal Residence consists of 15 luxurious mixed-use buildings, each six to seven stories tall, positioned within Gewan Island’s vibrant commercial and residential district.

Features of the Crystal Walkway

At the heart of this district lies the Crystal Walkway, a 450-meter-long climate-controlled outdoor pedestrian area. The walkway is shaded by 45 crystal structures, offering over 14,000 square meters of shade, making it a comfortable space for visitors even in Qatar’s extreme weather. The walkway will also feature:

- 11,000 sqm of shopping and dining space

- 101 retail units

- 482 public parking spaces, with 120 on-street

- 180 illuminated crystal flooring boxes

- Two large crystal clocks, standing at 5 meters tall

Executive Director of Public Services at UDC, Abdullatif Ali Al Yafei, shared that the area will house 10 tonnes of crystals in various forms, including illuminated crystal flooring, which will highlight five different themes: desert, snow, forest, sea, and machinery.

Upscale Apartments and Amenities

In addition to the walkway, the surrounding Crystal Residence offers 586 apartments, including one to three-bedroom units and four-bedroom duplexes. Residents will enjoy access to a wide range of leisure, retail, and entertainment facilities, as well as underground parking.
