Qatar to Build 23,700 sqm Qatar Square in Tirana, Albania

The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has signed a significant grant agreement with Tirana’s Municipality to create a new urban landmark: Qatar Square. This deal was formalized by Sultan bin Ahmed Al Aseeri, Acting Director General of QFFD, and Erion Veliaj, Mayor of Tirana, with Qatari Ambassador Jabor bin Ali Hussein Al Dosari in attendance.

A Landmark Investment

Qatar Square will cover 23,700 square meters in the center of Albania’s capital and cost EUR 11 million. The square will feature various facilities, including spaces for events, exhibitions, and celebrations, as well as shops and gathering areas. A key component of the project is a water purification system for the Lido River, which will support natural irrigation for a nearby park.

Cultural and Developmental Goals

The design of Qatar Square will draw inspiration from traditional Qatari weaving patterns known as Sadu. This aesthetic choice aims to celebrate Qatari culture and foster cultural exchange between Qatar and Albania.

The long-term vision for the square includes the development of 25,000 homes in the area and creating job opportunities for locals. This initiative is expected to stimulate the Albanian economy and enhance the local job market.

Qatar’s Commitment to Global Development

This project highlights Qatar’s commitment to supporting international development and strengthening global partnerships through major infrastructure investments.
