Qatar Reveals Astronomical Start Date for Ramadan 2025

The Qatar Calendar House, in collaboration with Al-Ajari Scientific Center in Kuwait, has announced that, based on astronomical calculations, the first day of Ramadan 2025 is expected to fall on Saturday, March 1.

According to a joint statement, specialists determined that the crescent moon will be visible on Friday, February 28, at 3:45 AM Doha and Kuwait time. This marks the official sighting day, playing a crucial role in confirming the start of the holy month.

However, while astronomical predictions provide an estimate, the final confirmation remains with the Crescent Sighting Committee under the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. The committee will review moon sighting reports before officially declaring the start of Ramadan.

Eng. Faisal Al-Ansari, Executive Director of the Qatar Calendar House, stated that it is possible to see the Ramadan crescent moon in the evening on the sighting day. In both Qatar and Kuwait, the crescent will set 32 minutes after sunset, increasing the likelihood of visibility.
