Qatar Poised for Record-Breaking Tourism in 2024

Qatar is on pace to achieve its highest-ever tourist numbers in 2024, with nearly 3.3 million visitors arriving in the first eight months alone. This marks a significant 26% increase compared to the same period in 2023, signaling a record-breaking year for the country’s tourism sector.

Last year, Qatar hosted over 4 million visitors, the highest number at the time, but industry projections suggest this year’s figure could reach 4.5 million by December and climb further to 4.9 million in 2025.

In August 2024 alone, 328,000 tourists arrived, a 24% spike from the 264,000 visitors recorded in August 2023. Tourism experts predict even higher numbers in the last quarter of the year, driven by favorable weather and holiday seasons.

Saudi Arabia continues to lead in sending tourists to Qatar, with 943,000 visitors so far in 2024. India follows with 262,000, while 150,000 Bahrainis have also made the trip. Additional visitors came from the UK, USA, Kuwait, Oman, Germany, UAE, and China.

The ease of visa procedures through the Hayya platform has been instrumental in boosting arrivals. Qatar’s visa-free entry policy for 102 nations, alongside its streamlined e-visa system, has encouraged more international travelers.

Supporting this surge, Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport (HIA) played key roles in attracting visitors. Qatar Airways flew over 40 million passengers during the 2023-24 fiscal year, while HIA serviced 48.7 million travelers, marking a 23.7% increase in aircraft movements.

With Qatar’s tourism sector on a steep growth trajectory, the nation is well on its way to shattering its previous visitor records and cementing its status as a global travel hub.
