Qatar Opens Al Amal in Syria to House Displaced Families

Northern Syria saw a major milestone in humanitarian aid as Qatar inaugurated the Al Amal Residential City to provide safe and dignified housing for families displaced by conflict. The initiative, spearheaded by Qatar Charity (QC) in partnership with the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), aims to offer a fresh start for those living in harsh tent conditions for years.

Inauguration Ceremony Brings Key Officials Together

The opening ceremony was attended by H.E. Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Turkish Deputy Interior Minister Munir Karaloglu, IHH Secretary-General Durmus Aydin, Gaziantep Mayor Fatma Sahin, and QC CEO Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari.

Speaking at the event, Al Misnad highlighted Qatar's commitment to supporting Syrian families under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. "This city represents not just a housing project but a symbol of hope and dignity for those who have endured so much hardship," she said, praising the collaborative efforts between QC and IHH.

A New Beginning for Thousands

The residential city includes 1,400 homes, schools, markets, a health center, and a mosque, designed to accommodate more than 8,800 people. The relocation process has already begun, with families moving in stages to ensure a smooth transition.

QC CEO Al Kuwari described the project as a "gift from the charitable people of Qatar" to their Syrian neighbors who have faced years of war and displacement. "The joy on the children's faces and the stability families have regained shows the transformative impact of this initiative," he noted.

Hope for a Better Future

Turkish Deputy Interior Minister Karaloglu shared that over 821,500 Syrians have returned from Turkiye and emphasized the continued bond between the two nations. He expressed gratitude to QC, IHH, and all partners involved in making the project a success.

Beneficiaries of the project expressed their happiness and relief at finally having permanent homes after years of suffering in refugee camps. "We are grateful to Qatar and everyone who made this possible," one resident shared.
