Historic Italian Ship Amerigo Vespucci Docks in Qatar

For the first time in its 93-year history, the Amerigo Vespucci, Italy’s iconic naval training ship and ambassador of "Made in Italy," has docked in Qatar as part of its global tour.

The ship will be stationed in Doha from December 17 to 22, marking the 30th stop of its world journey, which began in Italy on July 1, 2023.

During its Doha visit, the Amerigo Vespucci will host Villaggio Italia, a cultural exhibition celebrating Italian excellence across arts, cuisine, and craftsmanship. This initiative, a collaborative effort spearheaded by Italy’s Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto, unites 11 Italian ministries and showcases Italy’s rich heritage and economic innovation.

Supported by the Italian Embassy in Doha, Qatar Tourism, and Katara Cultural Village, Villaggio Italia will feature artistic performances, culinary delights, and exhibitions highlighting Italy’s legacy. Guests can tour the “world’s most beautiful ship,” representing the country’s naval traditions, and immerse themselves in a blend of historical and contemporary Italian culture.

The docking of the Vespucci underscores the deepening ties between Italy and Qatar, bolstered by frequent diplomatic exchanges and collaborations in politics, economics, and cultural affairs. Notably, President Sergio Mattarella announced the ship’s arrival during his October 2023 state visit to Doha, emphasizing its symbolic importance during Qatar National Day celebrations on December 18.

Public access to both the ship and Villaggio Italia is free but requires prior booking. Villaggio Italia will be open daily from 10 AM to 11 PM, except on December 17 (5 PM opening) and December 22 (closing at noon).
