American pop-punk band, Green Day, set the stage on fire at Coachella 2025 on Saturday, Apr. 12, especially with their tribute to the children of Gaza.
The band's lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, changed a lyric of the band's 2004 track 'Jesus of Suburbia'. The original line is, "Runnin’ away from pain when you’ve been victimized,” but Armstrong sang, "Runnin’ away from pain like the kids from Palestine / Tales from another broken home.”
The new rendition was appreciated by the crowd because they cheered enthusiastically when Armstrong sang that lyric.
This is not Armstrong's first time showing support for Palestine. During their concert in Malaysia, Armstrong held up a flag of Palestine.
This is not the first time that Green Day has made a politically-charged statement during their performance. In 2016, during the U.S. presidential election, the band changed the lyrics of their song 'Holiday' to protest then-candidate Donald Trump, calling him a 'white supremacist".
Recently, Armstrong has been swapping lyrics of the band's songs to take a dig at renowned personalities including Elon Musk, Vice President JD Vance, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene
