Get Protected from the Flu with Free Vaccination in Qatar

With flu season here, Hamad General Hospital's Trauma and Emergency Department Patient and Family Advisory Council is urging everyone to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated. The flu shot remains the most effective way to protect yourself and your loved ones from seasonal influenza and its complications.

Why Get the Flu Shot?

The flu vaccine provides up to 70% protection, significantly reducing the risk of infection. However, immunity weakens over time, making it essential to get vaccinated annually. The vaccine is updated each year to combat the ever-changing flu virus, ensuring the best possible defense.

Dr. Thomas, a Council member, emphasized the urgency of early vaccination:

"The flu virus evolves every year, so getting the updated vaccine is crucial. Protection takes up to two weeks to develop, so don’t delay!”

The Bigger Picture

Influenza can lead to severe illness, hospitalizations, and even fatalities, especially among vulnerable groups like:

  • Pregnant women
  • Children
  • Individuals with chronic conditions
  • Those over 50

In Qatar alone, over 750 people were hospitalized due to influenza in 2022. Vaccination not only protects individuals but also reduces virus spread, safeguarding the entire community.

Council member Rajani Murthi highlighted:

"Getting vaccinated isn’t just about protecting yourself—it’s about creating a safer environment for everyone."

Where to Get Your Free Flu Vaccine

Flu shots are available free of charge at 90 health facilities across Qatar, including:
