Geneva International Motor Show Moves Permanently to Qatar

After nearly 120 years of captivating automotive enthusiasts in Geneva, the renowned Geneva International Motor Show bids farewell to Europe, marking a historic shift as it relocates permanently to Qatar.

In a recent announcement, organizers revealed plans to discontinue the traditional Geneva show, opting instead for a rebranded event titled the 'Geneva International Motor Show Qatar' in Doha.

The 2024 edition in Qatar is slated to run from November 27 to December 6, 2024.

This decision comes as a culmination of a transition initiated in 2021, with an agreement between organizers and Qatar's tourism board to share hosting rights. Originally conceived as an annual affair in Geneva, the collaboration introduced a biennial event in Doha under the same prestigious banner.

The Comité permanent du Salon international de l’automobile Foundation, responsible for orchestrating the Geneva show, cited various factors contributing to the move. These included uncertainties within the automotive industry and a decline in the appeal of major European shows.

Acknowledging the challenging market conditions in Europe, the foundation opted for dissolution, recognizing the shifting landscape of automotive exhibitions. Alexandre de Senarclens, the Foundation’s president, attributed competition from other prominent shows like Paris and Munich as additional factors influencing the decision.

Since its inception in 1905, the Geneva International Motor Show has served as a platform for iconic car unveilings, showcasing legendary models such as the Jaguar E-Type, Lamborghini Miura, Porsche 356, Aston Martin Vantage, and the original Range Rover. Now, as it transitions to Qatar, the show continues its legacy of celebrating automotive innovation and excellence on a global stage.
