Fernando Alonso Tops FP2 Ahead of Saudi GP 2024

From second to first, Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso topped the second practice session ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2024

The two-time champion set the benchmark with a lap time of 1m28.827s, which is faster than Max Verstappen's benchmark in FP1.

He was followed by Mercedes' George Russell who had a lap time of 1m29.057s.

Verstappen finished third, while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished fourth.

Red Bull's Sergio Perez finished fifth, while Alonso's teammate Lance Stroll followed him in sixth.

Carlos Sainz Jr. finished seventh, followed by Lewis Hamilton, Pierre Gasly, and Oscar Piastri.

Hamilton received a warning from the stewards and was fined £12,800 following a high-speed near miss with Logan Sargeant.

The seven-time world champion was going through Turn 10 when Sargeant came up rapidly on a faster-timed lap behind him.

Sargeant chose to take avoiding action over the right-hand kerb, which helped him avoid a high-speed crash.
