Doha Marathon 2025: Tanui and Sintayehu Steal the Show

Kenyan runner Ezra Kipketer Tanui and Ethiopian athlete Ethlemahu Sintayehu captured the men’s and women’s elite titles at the Doha Marathon 2025 by Ooredoo on Friday. Held along the scenic Doha Corniche, the event witnessed an impressive turnout of over 15,000 runners, making it the largest marathon in the event’s history.

Tanui, in just his second-ever marathon, clocked an impressive 2:07:28 to claim the men’s title, edging out Ethiopian runners Balew Yihunle (2:07:36) and Mitku Tafa (2:07:40) in a nail-biting finish. Reflecting on his victory, Tanui shared, “It’s my first Doha title, and I couldn’t be happier. Last year, I placed fourth, so this win is extra special.”

Meanwhile, Sintayehu dominated the women’s race, finishing in 2:21:43 and smashing her personal best of 2:25:36, set in Abu Dhabi two years ago. The 23-year-old marathon specialist strategically broke away from her competitors in the final stages, leaving compatriots Muluhabt Tsega (2:22:21) and Zinah Senbeta (2:22:34) trailing behind.

In the non-elite categories, Morocco’s Rachid Boudalla led the men’s full marathon with a time of 2:31:23, while Spain’s Estefania Unzu Ripoll emerged as the fastest in the women’s 40–49 age group.

This year’s marathon, certified as a World Athletics Gold Label event, set a new benchmark in participation and organization. With a 2,000-runner increase from the previous year, the race lived up to its billing as the biggest in its history, uniting athletes of all ages and nationalities in a celebration of endurance and community spirit.

The Doha Marathon 2025 by Ooredoo once again proved to be a marquee event, cementing its reputation as a must-attend race on the global athletics calendar.
