His Excellency Mr. Jassim bin Saif Al-Sulaiti, Minister of Transport, inaugurated the Lusail Bus Depot, which is the largest electric bus depot in the world, with a capacity of 478 buses.

This was during a ceremony held on Tuesday, October 18, at the warehouse site west of Lusail City, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and His Excellency Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi, President of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), and a number of He is a senior official in the transportation sector and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

What are the components of Lusail Bus Depot for Electric Buses?

The Lusail Bus Depot covers an area of more than 400,000 square meters and includes 24 mixed-use buildings along with bus stops, utility and recreational facilities, green spaces, and electrical sub-stations.

The Depot also contains about 11,000 solar energy units that have been installed on a total area of more than 25,000 square meters, with the aim of generating 4 megawatts of energy to supply buildings with the necessary energy, according to the website of the Ministry of Communications.

The Depot is divided into three sections, as the first section includes 478 bus stops equipped with 248 electric charging equipment to operate electric buses, in addition to a number of facilities for maintenance, quick inspection, cleaning and drying, and electrical distribution sub-stations.

The second section contains the residential buildings for housing workers in the Depot, which were developed in accordance with international specifications and the requirements of the Ministry of Labor and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

The capacity of these buildings reaches 1,400 workers, supported by all service facilities such as dining halls and a mosque, in addition to recreational, administrative, and security facilities.

While the third section consists of a warehouse for electric express buses and contains 24 stops equipped with 24 electric chargers to support the operational operations of this type of bus. It also includes a number of facilities for maintenance, cleaning, drying, and quick inspection.

In addition, the Lusail Bus Depot contains the Operations Control Building, which extends over an area of more than 39,000 square meters and serves as the main office for monitoring and directing all bus operations, and it will be operational next year.

It should be noted that the public transport bus infrastructure program consists of 8 stations and 4 bus depots covering the regions of the country and is supported by more than 650 electric charging stations for the purpose of operating electric buses.

The program also includes 4 parking lots (park and move), to serve users of public transport and support mobility operations, in addition to developing more than 2,300 bus stops distributed inside and outside Doha, designed according to the highest international standards and the latest types of sustainable technology in line with the identity of public transport.
