DFI Makes Record with 13 Supported Films Selected at Cannes

The Doha Film Institute (DFI) makes a record as 13 of its co-financed projects are selected for the 76th Cannes Film Festival. 

“About Dry Grasses” by Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Jessica Hausner’s “Club Zero” were selected for Official Selection, In Competition category. 

“Banel E Adama” by Senegalese filmmaker Ramata-Toulaye SY was selected for the In Competition category, which makes it the first DFI grantee project to be selected in this prestigious section. 

This nomination makes DFI the only film institute in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to have 8 supported projects, including 7 co-financed projects selected for the Official Selection, In Competition category to date. 

Other diverse projects supported by DFI's Grants Programme will also be screened at key sections of the Cannes Festival including 3 in Official Selection, Un Certain Regard; one in Official Selection, Midnight Screening; 4 projects in the parallel section of Critics’ Week (Semaine de la Critique), one in Director’s Fortnight (Quinzaine des cinéastes), and one in ACID. 

In 2022, 10 films by the institute were selected at the festival, while in 2021, 9 films were selected at the film festival.
