Bangladesh Reinstates 'Except Israel' Clause in its Passport
- Publish date: since a day

Bangladesh's Muhammed Yunis-led interim government has reintroduced the "except Israel" inscription on its passports.
The inscription was removed by Sheikha Hasina's government in 2021, despite Israel being globally criticized for its attacks in Gaza.
Bangladeshi nationals were allowed to visit Israel from a third country if they could obtain a visa because the 17 Legal Acts governing the South Asian nation's immigration rules could not bar them from travelling to that country.
However, recently, the country's Home Ministry has issued a directive asking its passport and immigration department to reinstate the sentence "THIS PASSPORT IS VALID FOR ALL COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD EXCEPT ISRAEL" in the official travel permits for Bangladeshi citizens travelling abroad.
Deputy Secretary of Home Ministry's Security Services Division, Nilima Afroze said, "We issued the letter (directive) on April 7," according to the state-run news agency BSS.
This news came after thousands of people rallied in Dhaka, condemning Israel's ongoing war in Gaza.
The main protest took place in central Dhaka's Suhrawardy Udyan, near the premier Dhaka University.
Bangladesh maintains no diplomatic ties with Israel ,and it officially supports an independent Palestine.
