Arab League Summit for Gaza Begins in Cairo

The Arab League Summit began at the Egypt’s New Administrative Capital on Tuesday, Mar. 4, with participation of Arab leaders including those from Qatar, Bahrain, Syria, Lebanon, and the Palestinian Authority.

In his opening remarks at the gathering, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for the adoption of its reconstruction plan for Gaza, which was supported by leaders of the other Arab nations, the UN, and the African nations.

During the summit, Jordan's King Abdullah stated that the first goal of the summit was to reject any plans of displacement of Palestinians from Gaza at all costs. The second objective is to propose a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza.

The third goal of the summit is to support the Palestinian Authority's efforts in managing Gaza, maintaining the authority's connection to the West Bank, and ensuring the provision of necessary services and food supplies to Gaza.

The fourth objective is to stop the escalation of violence in the West Bank, particularly during Ramadan.

King Abdullah emphasized that the two-state solution was the only way to ensure Palestinian statehood with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Jordanian ruler emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire agreement and guaranteeing the implementation of all three phases.

During his address, he also condemned Israel's blockade of aid from entering Gaza.

The Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called for one government to rule the West Bank and Gaza.

He revealed that Egypt will host a fundraising conference in April to gather funds for its Gaza reconstruction plan, given it is approved by all stakeholders in the conflict.
