World Cup Stadiums: A Closer Look at Education City Stadium
On June 15, 2020, the readiness of Education City Stadium was officially announced, in a special television program that reviewed the features of the third FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadium, which has a capacity of 40,000 seats.
Beautiful landscapes and a number of leading international universities are spread around the Education City Stadium, where cutting-edge research is conducted, and students draw knowledge from academics who do their best to inspire future generations of innovators. This entire region is brimming with inventions and innovations, coupled with the spirit of determination to make the FIFA World Cup 2022 a driver of social and human development, and this is not surprising for a place that is the home of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

After hosting matches from the tournament through to the quarterfinals, the stadium's direct contribution to international development will be evident, as the stadium's capacity will be halved and the remaining 20,000 seats will be donated to build stadiums in developing countries, to help spread the passion for the game around the world.
This reduction in capacity will not affect the stadium's aesthetics, but rather will give its modern curves the wonderful feeling that this venue has been designed to embrace the fans with passion while retaining the atmosphere of excitement.
Fans can easily reach Education City Stadium by car or metro, as it is only 7 kilometers from the heart of Doha. As in all FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadiums, state-of-the-art cooling technology ensures that the temperature is maintained year-round so players and fans can feel completely comfortable.
As soon as they arrive, fans will witness the beautiful green spaces and advanced facilities surrounding the stadium, which have been built with the highest standards of sustainability and continuity in mind. These facilities include football training pitches, a golf course, and shops.
Education City Stadium will be a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and progress for decades to come, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, and the goals of both Qatar Foundation and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy.
Education City Stadium depicts a chapter in the rich history of Islamic architecture, as its facade is characterized by triangles that form intertwined geometric decorations such as diamond lines that reflect the sunlight, and show a change in their colors as the angle from which the sun’s rays emerge as it rotates in the sky from sunrise to sunset.
In January 2020, the stadium received a 5-star Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) certification, confirming Qatar’s commitment to protecting the environment.
Education City Stadium is expected to house offices for non-governmental organizations that use sport as a tool for development. Harnessing football to achieve such goals was the main driver behind Qatar’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
On the local level, the stadium will become a distinguished sports, entertainment, and social complex, in which students and residents of nearby areas will find the place to spend their most enjoyable times. Local sports clubs will be able to use the available facilities, entertainment activities will be provided in the stadium, and a school will be built near to its surroundings.
