The legendary reception that the Moroccan national team enjoyed upon its return to the country, whether on the popular or official levels, was just the beginning of reaping the achievement of the Qatar World Cup.
A while ago, Yassin Bono, goalkeeper of Morocco and the Sevilla team, entered the final list of candidates for the Best Goalkeeper in the World for the year 2022.
Then The International Federation for History and Statistics revealed a list of candidates for the 2022 World Coach of the Year award, which included Walid Regragui, coach of the “Atlas Lions”.
The list included giant names in addition to Regragui, such as the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid coach, the German Jurgen Klopp, the coach of Liverpool, and his Spanish counterpart in Manchester City, Pep Guardiola.
Among the strong names on the list are Portuguese Jose Mourinho, coach of Rome, Italian coach Luciano Spalletti, coach of Napoli, and others.
Regragui's candidacy, according to the International Federation for History and Statistics, was not only due to his achievement with Morocco, but also to his success in leading Wydad Casablanca to achieve the 2022 CAF Champions League title.
It is noteworthy that Regragui, who took over the job last September, announced his continuation with the Moroccan national team, with the aim of achieving the 2025 African Cup of Nations title.
Walid Regragui was born on September 23, 1975. He was previously a player in the ranks of the Moroccan national team.
As for the training level, he previously coached the Moroccan Al-Fateh Al-Rabati club, the Qatari Al-Duhail club, Wydad Casablanca, and finally the Moroccan national team.
