Comedy is a genre of fiction that includes works intended to be humorous or amusing by inducing laughter, especially in theatre, film, stand-up comedy, television, radio, books, or any other entertainment medium.

The history of comedians dates back to 425 BC, when Aristophanes, a comic author and playwright, wrote ancient comic plays.

In celebration of the World Laughter Day, we will present you some of the top Arab comedians:

Aron Kader

The Palestinian American Aron Kader began his comedy career at the age of 19. Kader is well known in the comedy world as he founded The Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, which debuted on Comedy Central in 2007 and brought stand-up to the on National Public Radio.


 

Mohammed Amer

Mo Amer is also a Palestinian American. He came to the US as a refugee making him unique in being the first and only Arab American refugee comic to perform for US and coalition troops overseas.

Amer proved himself as one of the hilarious people redefining the comedy industry with his two Netflix specials, “The Vagabond” and “Mohammed in Texas”.

He also stars alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the DC film “Black Adam”


 

 Ramy Youssef

Ramy Youssef is an Egyptian American stand-up comedian, an actor, and a writer.

He is known for his role as Ramy Hassan on the Hulu comedy series (2019-present), for which he received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in 2020.

He was also nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.


 

 Maysoon Zayid

Maysoon Zayid is an Arab American actress and comedian with cerebral palsy. She is known as one of America's first Muslim women comedians.

She was also the first ever to perform stand-up in Palestine and Jordan and founded the New York Arab American Comedy Festival in 2003 along with other comedians.


 

 Sammy Obeid

Sammy Obeid is a Lebanese American stand-up comedian. He turned down a job at Google to be a comedian.

 Obeid was the first American comedian to headline in Russia, and has performed stand-up on multiple popular shows.

Obeid also is best known for his world record of performing comedy 1,001 nights in a row, a story featured in both Time Magazine and The New York Times.


 

 Eman Morgan

Eman Morgan is an Egyptian American stand-up comedian who performs in both English and Arabic languages.

Morgan’s major appearances have been in the Showtime Special “Bridging the Gap,” the feature film “Just Like Us” on Netflix, and in Funny or Die sketches.

Alongside comedy, he has also launched his very own Short Tie Necklace Accessory line.


 

 Tamer Kattan

Tamer Kattan is a multi-award winning international comedian.

He has TV and commercial credits in the US and UK, and is a regular at the Comedy Store, Improv and Laugh Factory in Los Angeles.

 Rawsan Hallak

Rawsan Hallaq is a Jordanian comedian, who holds a degree in civil engineering. She is distinguished for her comic roles through the Arab stand-up comedy program N2O Comedy with Kharabeesh Company.

She began her comedic career by sending a one-minute video to Kharabeesh Company, who were looking for new talents, and she was chosen from among 100 participants.

After that, the first stand-up episode was launched on the YouTube channel on October 24th, 2013.

She participated in a comedy program on Netflix entitled Comedy Artists in the World.


 

 Suzie Afridi

Suzie Afridi is a Palestinian American stand-up comedian and storyteller. She has her own blog as well as producing, performing, and curating comedy shows.

Nemr Abou Nassar

Nemr Nassar is a Lebanese American stand-up comedian.

He is credited with establishing and pioneering much of the stand-up comedy scene in the Middle East.

He has done several world tours and produced a comedy special, No Bombing in Beirut, which he followed with The Future is NOW!.

Nemr has also made numerous television appearances and has a weekly podcast, 'The Very Funny Podcast'.
