The Supreme Court upheld the law requiring TikTok's China-based parent company to divest from the app on Friday, Jan. 17.
The justices sided with the Joe Biden administration and found that the divest or ban law does not violate the First Amendment, three days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
However, the Biden administration does not plan to implement the ban ahead of the inauguration, leaving the decision to the Trump administration.
TikTok has argued that divestment is not a feasible option and its argument that the ban infringed on its First Amendment rights was rejected by the court.
President-elect Trump has sympathized with TikTok as he is reportedly planning to sign an executive order to circumvent the ban.
TikTok's CEO Shou Zi Chew is planning to attend Trump's inauguration.
