Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson gained a lot of attention on social media when they were seen eating at a well-known Egyptian restaurant in Cairo, and the news quickly spread online.
While visiting Egypt, Tom Hanks filmed scenes for his upcoming movie, including using underwater cameras to capture footage of the Red Sea coast. The director of the National Cinema Center, Karim Abdel Aziz, released a statement indicating that the purpose of Hanks' visit was to help boost tourism in Egypt.

Karim Abdel Aziz emphasized that it is simple to take pictures of Western projects in Egypt, and he expressed a desire to encourage more international projects to film in front of iconic Egyptian landmarks such as the Nile, pyramids, and desert.
Tom Hanks has visited Egypt before, specifically in 2014 to film "A Hologram for the King," which is based on Dave Eggers' novel of the same name. The movie was directed by Tom Tykwer and was eventually released in 2016.
