Saudi Arabia’s Dunya Abu Talib defeated Israel’s Abishag Semberg in the round of 16 of the women’s flyweight taekwondo competition at the Paris Olympic Games today, according to Reuters.

Abu Talib, the first Saudi woman to earn direct qualification to the Olympics, won with scores of 2-6, 5-4, and 10-0, capping her victory with two head kicks and two body kicks in the third round.

Both fighters received strong support from their compatriots in the stands.

Semberg expressed disappointment with her performance, emphasizing the importance of representing Israel on the world stage.

Calls for Israel to be banned from the Olympics have grown due to its ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Saudi Arabia has condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, calling them “inhumane” and accusing Israel of committing “continuous genocidal massacres” against the Palestinian population.
