Constitutional amendments to the nation's permanent constitution have received significant backing in a recent referendum. The project, which aimed to update the country’s foundational laws, was approved by 90.6% of valid votes, with a large turnout of citizens casting their ballots.

High Voter Participation and Favorable Outcome
The referendum, held on November 5, 2024, saw an impressive 84% voter participation rate from eligible Qatari citizens. Of the total votes, 89% were in favor of the constitutional amendments, while 9.2% voted against them. Only 1.8% of the votes were deemed invalid.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the General Referendum Committee, highlighted the strong turnout and the public's involvement as a reflection of Qatar's commitment to enhancing democratic participation. This initiative aligns with the vision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to promote national unity and ensure the rule of law.
Amendments Officially Ratified
Following the positive referendum results, the amendments were officially ratified by the Amir of Qatar. The constitutional changes will take effect immediately, with the details to be published in the Official Gazette.
