It has been a tradition for FIFA to develop an official poster for each edition of the FIFA World Cup since its beginning in 1930.
During a special event at Hamad International Airport, the Official Poster for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM was unveiled.
For the first time, a set of posters has been created for the event, all of which were made by Bouthayna Al Muftah, a Qatari female artist. A traditional hat is flung in the air in the main image, which represents jubilation and football enthusiasm across Qatar and the Arab globe. The seven supporting posters depict the Arab world's love of football and how the sport brings families together.
"The concept of collective memory was my main inspiration," Al Muftah added. "The majority of my work focuses on past experiences and memories, tying them to the present and archiving them in a modern way. I wanted the posters to be consistent with the concept and portray the story of Qatar's football culture."
"I wanted each poster to express celebration and football enthusiasm in Qatar," she stated. The main poster shows spectators waving their 'ghutra' and 'egal' [traditional headdress] in the air in celebration, as they do when a goal is scored."
According to FIFA Marketing Director Jean-François Pathy, the Official Poster for Qatar 2022 is an atmospheric embodiment of Qatar's creative and football tradition. They are really pleased with this lovely collection of posters, which represent Qatar's passion for football while also highlighting a great female local artist.
"Many tournament materials, including the design of one of our stadiums, Al Thumama, the tournament logo, the official mascot, La'eeb, and now the official poster, use our traditional headgear." We are extremely proud of the fact that our culture and heritage are prominent in all tournament-related activities."
According to Khalid Al Mawlawi, Deputy Director-General, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, "these beautiful posters symbolize their love of football and our excitement in hosting the first FIFA Globe Cup in the Middle East and Arab world." They are overjoyed that Qatar's culture and heritage are strongly displayed throughout the competition.
The design is largely black and white, with the official tournament emblem and traditional Telstar-style ball featuring the dark burgundy hue of the Qatar flag. Traditional native headwear (the 'ghutra' and 'egal') are thrown in the air in the photograph, which is a frequent celebration among soccer supporters in the region.
