Since the FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar has rapidly emerged as a prime destination for global travelers. The country is now making strides toward an ambitious goal: attracting six million visitors annually by 2030.

According to Visit Qatar CEO, Eng. Abdulaziz Ali Al Mawlawi, Qatar's tourism industry has witnessed significant growth, particularly in 2023.

Speaking on Qatar TV, Al Mawlawi highlighted that the nation welcomed over four million visitors in 2023, marking a substantial increase from previous years. He also revealed that during the first eight months of 2024 alone, around 3.5 million tourists had already visited the country. This steady momentum places Qatar firmly on track to achieve its six million visitor target.

The success of the 2022 World Cup, which brought 2.4 million football fans to the country, laid a strong foundation for this growth. Al Mawlawi attributed much of Qatar's tourism success to the country's well-established infrastructure, including the world-class Hamad International Airport (HIA) and the extensive global connections offered by Qatar Airways, which serves over 170 cities worldwide.

With new events and activities planned for the remainder of 2024, Al Mawlawi expects visitor numbers to surpass last year’s figures comfortably. The recent launch of Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030) underscores the government's commitment to tourism as a key pillar of economic diversification.

As Qatar continues to invest in and promote itself as a unique and attractive destination, the country's tourism sector is expected to play a vital role in shaping its future.
