As the 14th day of Ramadan approaches, Qatar is abuzz with excitement for Garangao night, one of the most cherished customs of the Holy month, especially for children, having fasted for half of the holy month.
The Ministry of Municipality (MoM) is leading the preparations, ensuring a memorable celebration in various municipalities.
The Doha Municipality is set to kick off the festivities tonight at New Salata Park, starting at 8 p.m., offering a fun-filled evening for families. Similarly, the Al Rayan Municipality will host an event at Expo 2023 Doha's Family Zone area from 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, Al Khor and Al Zakhira Municipalities will join in the celebrations at Ain Hleitan Souq in Al Khor at 8 p.m.
Garangao, a unique tradition in Qatar and the Gulf region, sees children dressed in traditional attire going door-to-door to collect sweets and treats from neighbors. The Ministry of Culture's Garangao Market at Darb Al Saai headquarters in Umm Salal is also open until Sunday, showcasing Qatari heritage and customs.
To ensure the safety of participants, health monitoring units are conducting inspections of outlets selling Garangao-related items.
Rooted in the tradition of pearl diving, Garangao night is a time for children to embrace Qatari culture, adorned in traditional clothing, singing special songs, and enjoying the communal spirit of sharing sweets and goodies with loved ones.
