On Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron officially launched the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games with a vibrant opening ceremony held on the Champs-Élysées and Place de la Concorde.
The opening event, which drew thousands of spectators, featured athletes parading through Paris’s iconic landmarks. The ceremony was designed to showcase the city’s commitment to accessibility, with special provisions like asphalt strips for wheelchair users.
The competitions will commence on Thursday and run through September 8. Over 4,000 athletes with various impairments will compete across 22 sports during the Games. This marks the second major sporting event for Paris this summer, following the recent Olympics.
