It will also be one of the most important elements that will contribute to the success of the 2022 World Cup by facilitating the transportation of hundreds of thousands of football fans who will come to Qatar to support their national teams in the tournament, as well as a prelude to Doha's involvement in the high-quality public transport development system.
The Arab Cup, hosted by the country from November 30 to December 18, 2021, was one of the most important challenges in which the metro succeeded, as the Doha Metro received about 2.5 million passengers.
Since its establishment, Qatar Railways has won many awards that highlight its commitment to applying the highest standards in architectural design, use of modern technology, safety, environment, and sustainability.
On March 22, Qatar Rail announced that the total number of passengers on the Doha Metro has reached 50 million, from the start of its operations in 2019 until today.
Qatar Rail clarified that these figures confirm the importance of the role that the Doha Metro has become in strengthening the public transport system and facilitating the movement of individuals. It also reflects the growing confidence of citizens, residents, and visitors to the State of Qatar in the services of the Doha Metro, according to a statement published on the website of Qatar Rail.
The accompanying services provided by Rail, as part of the first and last-mile strategy, facilitated passenger access to the metro network stations.
These services include Metrolink and Metro Express, as the Metrolink and Metro Express services cover a number of network stations, and new routes are added continuously to include larger areas.
Qatar Rail is currently intensifying its operational preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to ensure a comfortable transportation experience for fans of the tournament, especially that the metro is directly connected to five of the eight stadiums that will host the tournament.
