Oman's performance led to a 1-1 draw against Kyrgyz Republic, eliminating them from the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.
With only 2 points from three matches in Group F, Oman finished third behind Saudi Arabia and Thailand.
Despite a promising start with an early goal from Muhsen Al Ghassani in the eighth minute, Oman needed an outright win for qualification.
However, Joel Kojo's 80th-minute equalizer for the Kyrgyz Republic dashed their hopes. This disappointing exit contrasts with Oman's previous Asian Cup edition, where they reached the knockout stage.
The draw also ensured Kyrgyz Republic's exit, placing them at the bottom of the group. In another Group F match, Saudi Arabia and Thailand played a 0-0 draw, with Saudi Arabia securing the top spot in the group and Thailand finishing second.
Unfortunately, Oman's two points were insufficient to advance as one of the best-ranked third-placed teams.
