Sarah Hamouda, a 38-year-old British Egyptian living in Dubai for nine years, is the mastermind behind Fix Dessert Chocolatier, a brand that has taken the world by storm with its unique pistachio-filled chocolate bars.

Launched in 2021, Fix started as a side hustle inspired by Hamouda’s pregnancy cravings. She wanted to create something beyond the typical chocolate, leading to bars filled with unusual ingredients like filo pastry, vanilla custard, and tea biscuits.

An Unprecedented Buzz

Since its inception, Fix has seen a meteoric rise in popularity. What started as single-digit daily orders quickly soared to 500. “The buzz around the brand has been unreal,” Hamouda says, highlighting the global response from countries like Canada, Argentina, and Romania.

The handmade nature of each bar, with colorful designs painted on them, adds to their charm but also limits production capacity.

Scaling Up Amid Challenges

Fix’s growth hasn’t been without challenges. Since a viral video in February, the business has expanded from Hamouda and her husband working from home to a team of 10 in a rented kitchen.

Despite this, demand often outstrips supply, with the 200-gram bars, priced at $20 each, selling out within minutes of going live on Deliveroo at 5 pm daily.

Backlash and Inspiration

While the scarcity of the bars has led to some online criticism and a “chocolate black market” where bars are resold at high prices, Hamouda sees a silver lining. She’s proud that her creations inspire others, with many fans trying to recreate the bars at home. “We get messages from people saying, ‘thank you for inspiring us to be creative at home,’” she shares.

Looking Ahead

The overwhelming response has not only solidified Fix’s place in Dubai but also hinted at international expansion. “We have a lot in the pipeline,” Hamouda says, expressing confidence that this is just the beginning for Fix Dessert Chocolatier.
