The Maldives has declared a ban on Israeli passport holders entering the country, citing the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The presidential office made the announcement in a press release on Sunday.

Decision Backed by Cabinet
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu decided to implement the ban following a recommendation from his cabinet. The Maldives will amend its laws accordingly and establish a cabinet subcommittee to oversee the process.

Israeli Travel Advisory
In response to the Maldives' decision, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised its citizens to avoid traveling to the island nation. They also recommended that Israelis currently in the Maldives consider leaving due to potential difficulties in receiving assistance.
Support for Palestine
President Muizzu also announced the appointment of a special envoy to assess Palestinian needs and the launch of a fundraiser in collaboration with UNRWA to support Palestinians. Additionally, he plans to organize a nationwide rally under the slogan "Falastheenaa Eku Dhivehin," meaning "Maldivians in Solidarity with Palestine."
Condemnation of Israeli Airstrikes
This decision follows President Muizzu's recent condemnation of an Israeli airstrike on a displaced persons camp in Rafah, which resulted in at least 45 Palestinian deaths and over 200 injuries.
