All recently immigrated expats who moved to Saudi Arabia for employment or residence must complete iqama medical tests in order to get their iqama, the resident id.

In Saudi Arabia, ensuring the country's national health security is the primary goal of the iqama medical tests. In order to protect the Saudi residents from any diseases that recently arrived individuals may bring with them, the government will collect the medical data of expats.

Once arrived in Saudi Arabia as an employee or worker for an employer, the employer will ask the employee to visit one of the approved medical centers within the first week for a series of medical tests in order to get the iqama. Iqama is a temporary residence permit that allows expatriates to live and work in the Kingdom.

What are the documents one must carry to the Efada- Certified Medical Center?

  • Iqama medical test fees -Approximately 200 Riyals
  • Copies of Passport and Visa.
  • Original Passport.
  • 2 Passport size photographs with White background.
  • For people who come for agricultural occupations, a Schistosoma test certificate is a necessity.
  • Meningitis Vaccination Certificate, if you are from Sudan. Few medical centers would offer this service to check and issue the certificate if you don't have it.

People traveling from the countries on the list below must have a pre-medical clearance certificate from their home countries, attested by a known hospital or clinic.

Overview of Saudi Arabia's mandatory medical tests for iqama

  • Salmonella Stool Test (Microscopic) (Chest)
  • a blood test (Malaria, HIV 1 and 2, Hepatitis)
  • Test of urine (Protein and Glucose)
  • Female pregnancy tests
  • Clinical tests include those for the hernia, blood pressure, eyesight, hearing, chest, and heartbeat.

The work at the Medical center is done once the expat has finished all the medical checks necessary for Iqama. The medical test results will be available online through the Ministry of Health's Efada service. One can return to the same medical clinic in two to three days for physical reports.

Similar examinations are required for dependents of expat workers who are older than 18 in order to obtain their dependant iqama. Children can verify their weight, height, and age, but the rule is not as difficult for them.
