The embassy made this request after it witnessed a surge in applications for the Japanese visa waiver, which is resulting in a longer wait period for applicants, therefore reducing the efficiency of the new system.
The visa waiver agreement between Japan and Qatar was implemented in the first week of April and since then, the Japanese embassy has received a large number of visa waiver applications.
However, the embassy was receiving visa waiver requests since January 2023, even before the agreement came into effect.
This surge in applications indicates a boost in tourism for Japan and promotes it as a tourism-oriented country. The development will also improve tourism in Qatar and the overall people-to-people exchange between both countries.
Qatar is one of the 68 countries that does not require a visa to travel to Japan.
