Japan and Spain's Athletes Win Gold on Day 1 of Judo Championships

Japan's Natsumi Tsunoda and Spain's Francisco Garrigós won gold medals on the first day of the World Judo Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The World Judo Championships began on May 8th at the Ali bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena. 

Tsunoda won the gold medal against France's Shirine Boukliin in the women's under 48 kg category. Tsunoda is the current and two-time world champion. 

On the other hand, Garrigós secured the gold medal in the men's under 60 kg category. He fought against Uzbekistan's Dilshodbek Baratov who ended up securing second place in the category. 

The Judo Championships will run until May 14th and there are 657 players from 99 countries participating in the tournament. The championships feature 343 players across the categories for the men's singles, while the women's singles feature 314 players across seven weight categories.
