HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani presided over the eighth Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award ceremony in San Jose, Costa Rica, on Tuesday.

Held at the National Conference and Convention Center, the event highlighted groundbreaking global efforts in promoting transparency and fighting corruption.
Costa Rica’s First Vice President Stephan Brunner Neibig joined HH The Amir in presenting the awards. The ceremony began with documentaries spotlighting the award’s history and this year’s remarkable nominees, emphasizing their achievements in combating corruption worldwide.
Among the honorees was Dr. Muna Buchahin, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Anti-Corruption. Professors Robert Klitgaard and Alberto Vannucci were recognized in the Academic Research and Education category, while Dr. Rodrigo Arias Grillo and Professor Elias Bantekas earned the Safeguarding Sports from Corruption award.
The Innovation or Investigative Journalism award went to Khadija Sharife, and the Youth Creativity and Engagement award was jointly presented to Gayo James Mpuya and Mejor Mexico, showcasing the diverse approaches to anti-corruption initiatives.
Speeches by United Nations Assistant Secretary-General Alexander Zouev and UN Special Advocate for Corruption Prevention Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri underscored the importance of transparency and collaboration in achieving global accountability.
Earlier in the day, HH The Amir and Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves unveiled the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award monument at Parque España, a symbol of commitment to integrity and justice.
The event was attended by members of HH The Amir’s official delegation, high-ranking officials, and representatives from the award’s advisory boards. The ceremony reinforced Qatar’s dedication to fostering global cooperation in the fight against corruption.
