The following phase, which will start in early 2023, will expand HIA's capacity to nearly 75 million people and build two new concourses inside the current terminal.
H.E. Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways Group, stated in a press conference held today in Doha that this expansion represents a significant step in the development of tourism in Qatar through the Hamad International Airport, particularly in light of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. "
He stated that Hamad International Airport has consistently lived up to its commitment to defining elegance, flair, and sustainability as befitting the world's busiest airport for years.
He also disclosed that a train station will be erected beneath the structure and that four bridges will be built on the west side.
The airport's newly opened facilities include:
- Central Concourse - The Orchard
- The Orchard's a retail and dining area
- North Plaza Lounges and the Oryx Garden Hotel
- Al Mourjan Business Lounge - The Garden
- Remote Transfer Baggage Facility, which enables the tracking, retrieval, and rerouting of bags automatically.
- Electronic Air Traffic Control Tower

In the middle of the recently expanded terminal, there is a 6,000 square meter indoor tropical garden called The Orchard. The 575 square meter water feature, which is an aquatic plant installed in a sustainable bio pond and will serve as the airport's main attraction, is one of its most appealing elements.
The ORCHARD has more than 25,000 plants and over 300 trees that were gathered from sustainable forests all over the world. It has a wide variety of flora.
With natural light fostering a peaceful atmosphere and encouraging a sense of health in everyone who enters, the area's unique design enables trees and plants to readily adapt to the interior circumstances and develop throughout the life of the airport.
Twenty landside truck docks will be available for the pickup of import cargo as part of the development of the new cargo warehouses, which will also include two temperature zones. There will also be a customer service office with 32 counters located in the warehouse.
