It was on September 4, 1998 when Google was first founded. It’s been celebrating it on the 4th for the past seven years, however, this year it decided to shift it to 27th.

Sergey Brin was a graduate student at Stanford University when Larry Page was assigned to show him around campus in 1997. In 1998, the two were building a search engine together in their dorm rooms and developing their first prototype.

Google Doodle
In 2000, Larry and Sergey asked current webmaster Dennis Hwang, an intern at the time, to produce a doodle for Bastille Day. It was so well received by our users that Dennis was appointed Google's chief doodler and doodles started showing up more and more regularly on the Google homepage.
In the beginning, the doodles mostly celebrated familiar holidays; nowadays, they highlight a wide array of events and anniversaries.
