In a statement published by the Committee on Projects and Legacy on its website, Beckham pointed to the Supreme Committee's tireless efforts in presenting programs and initiatives related to sustainable heritage in the run-up to the Qatar World Cup 2022, adding: "Even before the 2022 World Cup, the Supreme Committee launched several pioneering initiatives and programs, is clear evidence of its tireless efforts, which are part of the goals of hosting the World Cup, including improving the quality and broadening the practice of football, as well as building a sustainable legacy, which is most important because of its great impact on the realization of benefits for individuals and communities."
Beckham said that fans from around the world are scheduled to attend a historic event during which they get to know the passion of the people of Qatar and the region for soccer when the country hosts the 22nd edition of the tournament, which will be held for the first time in the Middle East and the Arab world from November 21 to December 18.
He continued: "Qatar has a long history and football is very popular among the population, and this will be clear when the tournament starts at the end of the year. Fans from around the world will realize that the culture of football has been around in the country for a long time. "In addition, the tournament will leave a rich legacy that will bear witness to the importance of this global event and how football can be used as an effective tool in the progress of societies."
Hosting this ancient tournament represents a golden opportunity to inspire the future generation, Beckham said, noting the legacy of the 2022 Qatar World Cup. He added: "The opportunity to host such a large tournament is an extraordinary achievement in itself, but more important is what happens after the tournament ends and the sustainable legacy that will have a valuable impact on individuals and improve their lives."
He concluded: “When people ask me what advantages countries have in hosting the World Cup; I tell them that this football celebration inspires future generations to work hard and achieve their dreams and about the role of football in positive change. It is great to host the World Cup, but more importantly, the legacy that remains after the World Cup competition is used to benefit from its facilities and legacy programs, and to harness the power of football to improve people's lives and flourish communities.
