This marks the country's first-ever Olympic medal in gymnastics and only the second gold medal in their history, following weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz's victory in Tokyo.

The 24-year-old gymnast dazzled the judges with an electrifying performance that included a high-flying 2-1/2 double piked front somersault and a flawless 3-1/2 twisting forward somersault.

Yulo's final score of 15.000 points narrowly edged out Israel's Artem Dolgopyat, the Tokyo 2020 champion, by just 0.034 points. Britain's top qualifier, Jake Jarman, finished third, only 0.067 points behind the gold medal.

Overcome with emotion, Yulo celebrated by punching the air and saluting the ecstatic crowd at Bercy Arena. The win not only brought immense pride to his nation but also an unexpected bonus: a fully furnished, two-bedroom condo in Taguig City, promised to Filipino gold medalists.

"I'm just overjoyed," Yulo said. "Winning this gold is what matters most to me, and the condo is just a bonus. I hope my success inspires more kids in the Philippines to take up gymnastics."

Yulo, who trained in Japan for seven years due to limited opportunities back home, hopes his victory will pave the way for the sport's growth in the Philippines. His triumph is a testament to his dedication and the support of those who helped him along the way.
