The film was nominated for four awards at the following film festivals:

  • Venice Film Festival 2023: Venice Horizons Awards for Best Film.
  • Pingyao International Film Festival 2023: Roberto Rossellini Awards for Best Film and Crouching Tigers for Best Film. 
  • Golden Rooster Awards 2023: Golden Rooster International Competition Award for Best Film.

The film is written and directed by Mohamed Ben Atia and features Majd Mastoura, Walid Bouchhioua, and Samer Bisharet. 

'Behind the Mountains' is about Rafik, who has been released from prison after four years, and wants to take his son to the mountains and show him his amazing discovery.
