The move comes over two years after an Arab boycott of Qatar was lifted. The Bahraini-Qatari Follow-up Committee had its second meeting on Wednesday at the GCC General Secretariat in Saudi Arabia where the decision to resume diplomatic relations was made.
Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement about the meeting, which said that Bahrain and Qatar have "decided to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries according to the principles of the United Nations Charter... The two sides affirmed that this step stems from the mutual desire to develop bilateral relations and enhance the Gulf unity and integration according to the GCC Charter."

Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared a similar statement, reinforcing the renewal of Bahrain and Qatar's diplomatic ties.
Early implications of both countries repairing their relations were given when Bahrain's Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa spoke with the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the phone in January.
